Save time and money by avoiding holiday traffic
(ATLANTA, GA 11.22.10)
Black Friday is a tradition for countless holiday shoppers. Hot deals, early morning door-busters, big crowds and … traffic, all of which conspires to leave some bargain hunters black and blue by the end of the day. This year, Black Friday in Georgia is in for a surprise because The Clean Air Campaign is turning it blue. This particular shade of blue denotes clean air and clear skies.
“Black Friday means ‘mall traffic,’” said Kevin Green, executive director of The Clean Air Campaign. “That makes it a great day to try carpooling and transit. If it works for you on Black Friday, continue using alternatives to driving alone on your daily commute after the holiday. Clean commuting year round saves thousands of dollars and reduces air pollution.”
Since Santa’s sleigh isn’t available, some of the busiest shopping hubs in metro Atlanta offer free transit services to car-free commuters and shoppers.
- Around Buckhead, “the buc” can take you to all major destinations. Visit www.bucride.com for information.
- Atlantic Station shoppers get a Free Ride between the Arts Center MARTA station and Atlantic Station every 15-20 minutes, seven days a week.
Commuters can save money and even earn a few dollars when they switch from driving alone to carpooling, vanpooling, teleworking, taking transit, walking and biking to work. The Clean Air Campaign pays drive-alone commuters $3 a day, up to $100 over three months to make the change.
Commuters who want to share the ride but don’t have a partner can find potential matches through RideSmart (www.myridesmart.com). For more information about Turning Black Friday Blue or using commute alternatives, visit CleanAirCampaign.org.
Get in the holiday spirit with co-workers, neighbors and friends by sharing the ride. The money you save and the pollution you keep out of the air we breathe will help make the season brighter.
About The Clean Air Campaign
The Clean Air Campaign is a not-for-profit organization that works with Georgia's employers, commuters and schools to encourage actions that result in less traffic congestion and better air quality. To accomplish this goal, The Clean Air Campaign, along with its associate organizations, partners with more than 1,600 employers to create custom commute options programs; and annually helps thousands of commuters find commute alternatives that work for them, providing financial incentives to get them started. The Clean Air Campaign also protects public health by issuing Smog Alerts and empowers students, parents and teachers to play a positive role in reducing traffic and cleaning the air through a multi-faceted education program reaching elementary, middle and high schools.
Each day, these programs reduce 1.6 million miles of vehicle travel and keep 800 tons of pollution out of the air we breathe. For more information, call 1-877-CLEANAIR (1-877-253-2624) or visit http://www.CleanAirCampaign.org.
