The True Cost of Driving Adds Up

Neat graphic from the folks at Go Banking Rates. Their figure of 70 cents per mile is on the higher end of what AAA includes in their report, 2010 "Your Driving Costs." The Clean Air Campaign uses a more mid-range figure of 56 cents per mile for a mid-sized sedan clocking about 15K miles/year. At either level, the money we're spending on driving our cars is astonishing.

The best savings strategy most people have yet to discover is choosing to drive less. Commuters who participate in incentive programs with The Clean Air Campaign and log their commuting activity with us can see exactly how much impact their efforts mean -- to their wallet AND the air we breathe.

SAFETY FOR BICYCLE RIDERS

I commend all those who are riding their bikes either to help the environment, save gas or just because. But I am concerned about all those people who do not obey the traffic laws. In West Cobb this is a huge issue as the bicycles ride 2-4 abreast on our roads, very, very dangerous. There are many who just ride in the middle of the traffic lane and/or refuse to stop for stop signs or honor the traffic signals. The problem too is no way to report them as no license/tag number and they are long gone by the time any police officer could get to the area. So to all those people who ride the roads-PLEASE RIDE SINGLE FILE AND OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS.
