Some of the best work being done anywhere to improve air quality and reduce traffic congestion is happening right here in Georgia. And in this challenging economy, where everybody must find creative ways to do more with less, commute options have become even more essential for employers, commuters and schools.
Here are a few of the achievements you helped make possible in 2009:
- Your efforts every day helped us go from eliminating 1.2 million to 1.6 million vehicle miles of travel from Georgia roads. That’s a 25% increase since 2006! At the same time, your efforts helped keep 800 tons of pollution out of the air we breathe each day – that’s up from 600 tons daily in 2006.
- Region-wide, more than 1,600 employers and property managers are Partners of either The Clean Air Campaign or one of the Atlanta region’s transportation management associations.
- In recognition of our programs and your commitment to improving the region, The Clean Air Campaign won local, state and national awards.
- The Clean Air Schools initiative expanded its programs to areas around the state of Georgia and has already doubled the number of participating schools since the start of the 2009 – 2010 school year. It now reaches 187 schools, representing more than 380,000 members of the school community.
- A survey found that a majority of commuters (74%) are continuing to clean commute up to two years after the cash incentive ends.
- During smog season, metro Atlanta experienced 17 fewer air quality violations than in 2008. Along with your efforts, we were aided by a cooler, windier and wetter smog season.
- By helping businesses start and expand telework programs, The Clean Air Campaign has now impacted about 11,000 teleworkers in Georgia since 2005.
Thank you for becoming a part of The Clean Air Campaign and helping make a difference in Georgia.
