Employers join to become leaders in sustainability and environmental change
(ATLANTA, GA 07.28.10)
At this year’s midpoint, 16 new employers from Gwinnett County to Houston County have taken action and implemented commute options programs that improve Georgia’s mobility and air quality. Across the state, more than 1,600 employers are now working with The Clean Air Campaign and its partner organizations.
“Now is the time for Georgia’s commuters to break old habits and try a new commute, like transit or carpooling,” said Kevin Green, executive director of The Clean Air Campaign. “More areas around the state are experiencing days when air quality has failed to meet federal standards this year, so it is vital for our new Partners to encourage their employees to make choices that support cleaner air.”
New Employer Partners Include:
- Clayton County - BBA Aviation; Waller & Associates, LLC
- DeKalb County - General Services Administration; Internal Revenue Service-Chamblee; Oz Publishing
- Fulton County - Black & Veatch Special Project Corporation; Credit Union of Atlanta; Siemens Industry; Tyson Foods
- Gwinnett County - Brockington & Associates; EZ Prints, Inc.; Sienna Corporation; GMAC-South East Regional Business Center; The Atlanta Dental Supply Company
- Houston County - 21st Century Partnership
- Muscogee County - Neighbor Works Columbus
- Newton County - Bard Global Distribution Center
The Clean Air Campaign’s Employer Partnership Program is part of a multi-tiered initiative to reduce traffic congestion and pollution to improve air quality by encouraging Georgia employers, schools and commuters to take action. At no cost to employers, The Clean Air Campaign provides consulting services to help employers develop custom commute options programs that motivate employees to carpool, vanpool, ride transit, telework, bicycle and walk to work instead of driving alone. In many areas across Georgia, more than half of smog-forming emissions come from the tailpipes of cars and trucks.
Based on the elements of their programs and their commitment to providing transportation choices for employees, Partners have an opportunity to receive recognition at the annual PACE Awards, honoring the best commute options programs.
About The Clean Air Campaign
The Clean Air Campaign is a not-for-profit organization that works with Georgia's employers, commuters and schools to encourage actions that result in less traffic congestion and better air quality. To accomplish this goal, The Clean Air Campaign, along with its associate organizations, partners with more than 1,600 employers to create custom commute options programs; and annually helps thousands of commuters find commute alternatives that work for them, providing financial incentives to get them started. The Clean Air Campaign also protects public health by issuing Smog Alerts and empowers students, parents and teachers to play a positive role in reducing traffic and cleaning the air through a multi-faceted education program reaching elementary, middle and high schools.
Each day, these programs reduce 1.6 million miles of vehicle travel and keep 800 tons of pollution out of the air we breathe. For more information, call 1-877-CLEANAIR (1-877-253-2624) or visit http://www.CleanAirCampaign.org.
